Born Jennifer Tara Blanc on April 21, 1974, in New York City, she began her career in theater before transitioning to on-screen roles. She gained early recognition for her work in popular television series, including Married… with Children, Saved by the Bell, and The Mommies. She later became known for her performances in Party of Five and Dark Angel, further establishing herself as a versatile actress. She was also the narrator on the movie The Crow.
